Journey Highlights

Neelum Valley

Pakistan’s most beautiful river valley — 244 km of forested mountains, cascading waterfalls, traditional villages, and the turquoise Neelum River running alongside the Line of Control with India. The Neelum Valley road is one of Pakistan’s most spectacular and continuously rewarding mountain drives.

Ratti Gali Lake

A high-altitude alpine lake at 3,700 metres near Dowarian in Neelum Valley, accessible by a 4-hour trek. Vivid turquoise water surrounded by green alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks — widely considered one of Pakistan’s most beautiful lakes.

Arang Kel

An extraordinary mountaintop village accessible by aerial cable car from Kel Village — sitting at 2,450 metres with panoramic views of the Neelum Valley below and snow-capped peaks above. The cable car journey itself is one of the most dramatic in South Asia. Arang Kel’s alpine meadows, traditional wooden houses, and the sense of arriving at the top of the world make it one of Azad Kashmir’s most unforgettable experiences.

Leepa Valley

One of Azad Kashmir’s most spectacular and remote destinations — a high-altitude valley accessible via the Reshian Pass at 3,300 metres, with traditional Kashmiri wooden architecture, brilliant autumn foliage, terraced rice fields, and mountain views that are completely different in character from the Neelum Valley. Best visited in autumn when the fields turn gold.

Shounter Lake

A remote alpine lake in upper Neelum Valley — extraordinarily beautiful and almost entirely off the tourist trail. Accessible by jeep from Kel then a short hike through dramatic mountain terrain. One of Azad Kashmir’s most rewarding hidden gems.

Keran Village & Suspension Bridge

A particularly beautiful section of Neelum Valley where the river narrows and the mountains close in. The Keran suspension bridge and the houses visible on the opposite bank (Indian-administered Kashmir) create an extraordinary sense of geography, history, and proximity that is found nowhere else in Pakistan.

Taobat — End of the Neelum Road

The last accessible point of the Neelum Valley road at 1,981 metres — a remote and beautiful village setting where the valley narrows between steep mountains. Taobat’s position at the journey’s end gives it a frontier quality that draws serious travellers wanting to experience the valley in its full length.

Muzaffarabad Fort (Red Fort)

A 16th-century fortification built at the confluence of the Neelum and Jhelum rivers with commanding views in every direction. One of Azad Kashmir’s most atmospherically situated historical monuments and a superb photography subject.

Rawalakot & Banjosa Lake

Rawalakot — the Pearl of Azad Kashmir — with nearby Banjosa Lake set in pine forest. Together they offer a relaxed, accessible experience of Kashmir’s natural beauty perfect for families and weekend retreats.

Pir Chinasi

A mountain viewpoint above Muzaffarabad at 2,743 metres with panoramic views of the Jhelum River valley and surrounding Himalayan foothills. A cable car provides easy access — outstanding photography potential.

Kel Village & Sharda

Kel is the departure point for Arang Kel cable car and Shounter Lake. Sharda — an ancient university town — contains ruins of a Sanskrit university that was one of the most important centres of learning in South Asia over a thousand years ago.

Dowarian

Gateway town for the Ratti Gali Lake trek. Surrounded by beautiful meadows and forests — the market gives a genuine insight into valley life before the ascent to the lake begins.

Family Travelers

One of Pakistan’s most accessible mountain regions — short drive from Islamabad, excellent roads, comfortable accommodation, and activities for all ages.

Couples & Honeymooners

Pastoral beauty, alpine lakes, Arang Kel cable car, and intimate boutique properties create a deeply romantic atmosphere.

Nature & Photography Enthusiasts

Rivers, forests, alpine lakes, rolling hills, and mountain backdrops create outstanding photography throughout the year.

Ratti Gali, Shounter Lake, and routes through upper Neelum Valley offer rewarding trekking for all fitness levels.
